Age-Related Vision Issues & Disease Support

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a medical condition which usually affects older adults and results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field (the macula) because of damage to the retina. It occurs in "dry" and "wet" forms. It is a major cause of blindness and visual impairment in older adults (>50 years). Macular degeneration can make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces, although enough peripheral vision remains to allow other activities of daily life.

A new group is being formed to discuss and learn about age-related vision issues and disease. If you or a family member has an age-related vision concern, you are invited to join in anytime.

The group will be facilitated by Allie McGrath, Program Coordinator at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. Assistance and support is provided by Susan Conder, Program Coordinator, State of Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services.

The group will meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at FiftyForward Knowles. The next meeting is set for Wednesday, February 20, 2013, Noon-1:30p.m. Reservations are not required but recommended.  Call us with any questions or to let us know you will be joining us:  (615) 743-3400.

Summer Bounty - Gazpacho!

One of the many wonderful things to enjoy in July is summer's bounty.  Vegetables are at their peak and the tastes are delicious. I'll admit that I'm not a tomato lover but I do love growing them!  I feel that the perfect way to enjoy my summer bounty is by making gazpacho.  Smooth or chunky, this cold soup is a great way to drink your veggies and enjoy the fruits of your hard work.
